MónaShell®
The patented MónaShell® technology is a patented biological air treatment system that can be supplied in different configurations, materials and customizable based on the customer’s needs.
The MónaShell® biofiltration system is a proven and costeffective alternative to chemical scrubbing or carbon adsorption, designed like a Biotrickling system yet incorporating many benefits of traditional biofilters by utilizing up-cycled recovered material generated from the food industry.
The shell-based media is sustainable and renewable with the ability to maintain a neutral pH within the biofilter. This ensures optimal odour treatment performance across a broad range of odor producing compounds, while simplifying operation and enhancing system reliability. MónaShell® technology in a single stage configuration was originally designed for odour removal emitted from wastewater treatment plant processes, lift and pump stations, and sludge holding tanks.

The introduction of recirculation technology and double pass treatment allowed to extend its use to high levels of H2S and VOC including those generated by industrial applications.
When it is used in combination with our CrumRubber™ technology it allows to remove up to 4000 ppm H2S.

Advantages of MónaShell® biofiltration compared to the traditional biofilter
---
Treats high and variable concentrations of H2S and a wider range of organic compounds
Up to 67% reduction in footprint compared to conventional biofilters due to higher removal efficiencies and reduced contact times
Minimized the formation of preferential air passages which would reduce the removal efficiencies of the system
Use of high porosity filter materials with low pressure drops
Less water consumption: water recirculation conserves H2O
Reduced energy consumption
No added nutrients
Advantages of MónaShell® biofiltration compared to wet scrubbers and dry carbons
---
It does not require chemical additives
Low load losses
Sustainable process that does not use plastic or chemical type filling materials
Lower operating costs
Reduction of maintenance costs
Longer life time of the filter material
Advantages of MónaShell® biofiltration over Regenerative Thermal Oxidizers (RTOs)
---
Low energy consumption
Lower CO2 emissions
Suitable for variable high VOC concentrations
